Timely YA Read: Taking Aim – by Michael Cart, et al.

Ex-bookseller and current blogger Alia Jones (Read It Real Good) wrote me this week suggesting that President Obama’s Executive Order about gun control presented a good reason to get Taking Aim: Power and Pain, Teens and Guns in front of teens, parents, teachers and librarians. Great idea!

The anthology contains 16-top shelf authors: Marc Aronson, Edward Averett, Francesca Lia Block, Chris Crutcher, Alex Flinn, Greg Galloway, Jennifer Hubbard, Peter Johnson, Ron Koertge, Chris Lynch, Walter Dean Myers, Joyce Carol Oates, Eric Shanower, Will Weaver, Elizabeth Wein, and Tim Wynne-Jones. These stories make up a kaleidoscope of views examining the role of guns in American culture. These realistic stories look into characters and situations that around gun ownership and gun uses (e.g., hunting, target shooting), gun violence, psychology of gun owners (why do they own a gun or guns?), the motivation of shooters, and what might happen next in our national dialogue.

Taking Aim: Power and Pain, Teens and Guns (9780062327352) by Michael Cart, et al. $17.99 hardcover. 9.8.15 on sale.
