While the halcyon days of the Oprah’s Book Club might be over, Oprah continues to exert a powerful cultural influence over our reading habits. Her Super Soul Sunday series has been a nice shot in the arm for inspirational non-fiction and we have two authors slated for Season 7:
Dani Shapiro will discuss Devotion (and will also mention a previous memoir, Slow Motion) for a full hour on 10/27/13. Her memoir of a spiritual reckoning and her midlife journey from secularism to faith, stuck a chord with many. People gave it four stars and noted that it is “[b]rave, compelling, unexpectedly witty.”
Devotion: A Memoir (9780061628351) by Dani Shapiro. $14.99 trade paperback. 2/8/11 on sale.
Rob Bell will discuss his latest bestseller, What We Talk About When We Talk About God, on 11/3/13. Bell has been called one of America’s “most influential” Christian leaders by both the New Yorker and the New York Times. Christian Century notes: “Time and again, Bell challenges the reader to be open to surprise, mystery and all of the unanswerables contained within the ‘wide stream’ called Christianity.”
What We Talk About When We Talk About God (9780062049667) by Rob Bell. $25.99 hardcover, 3/12/13 on sale.
