The week USA Today listed 30 “hot summer reads.” It’s a fascinating blend of fiction and nonfiction, a blend of the expected (Stephen King, James Patterson, our own Daniel Silva and James Rollins…) and things that were just on the edge of my radar (New Colum McGann and Marisha Pessl!)
A gratifying left-field nonfiction surprise was the choice of Michael Steissuth’s Outlaw: Waylon, Willie, Kris, and the Renegades of Nashville, which I pointed out a couple weeks back. Nice to see it get this kind of national endorsement.
And for those of you who (like me) can’t get enough of the history of
American country and traditional music, put Ricky Skaggs’ Kentucky Traveler on your must-read list. I’m in the middle of it right now and will have a post on it in later this summer. It’s great! And the book should be on sale just about the time you finish Outlaw.
